British painter Karen Griffiths lives in the French Alps, with her studio overlooking the alpine town of Morzine. Since leaving university, Brighton became home for 9 years painting in her beachfront studio, until moving to France 18 years ago.
Travelling since university, most recently Malaysia, India, Morocco, and China has proven to be her inspiration. Sketchbooks, photographs, writings and collected ephemera feed the paintings to create the atmosphere of encounters and passing moments in other worlds. More recently her home in the French Alps inspires atmospheric winter landscapes in muted palettes.
People and places she is drawn to on journeys – and here in her home in the mountains- fascinate, and become the focus, entwined on the canvas with words to create snapshots of time. Karen will continue to exhibit here in Morzine, soon in the UK and now sells her originals and fine art prints through her website.
